** Ana Popovic September UK Dates **

The Spirit of Hendrix lives - and SHE'S playing nearby!

Okay, so Yugoslavia may not be the first place you think of when it comes to blues music. Rock-blues is black, American and male. Always was, always will be. Well, you're in for a pleasant surprise. Ana Popovic plays an aggressive style that dukes it out big-time with any of her male counterparts.

To quote a title from her latest release, Sexy guitar slinger Popovic is now ready to 'Steal the Show' on 'the island of the music'. Ana is on her first UK tour, to promote her CD/DVD 'Ana!' Live in Amsterdam'.

Europe's biggest blues act. Don't worry, the only Balkan thing about Ana Popovic is her passport. You won't get pop or traditional Balkan music from this gal. Forget the way she looks (if you can!). Just close your eyes and listen. What you'll hear is searing blues guitar, smooth jazzy licks, sizzling electric slide and tight blues grooves.

Ana Popovic grew up with the sound of American roots music at her family home in Belgrade. Weaned on her fathers' blues collection, she couldn't help but fall in love with the music. She formed her first band 'Hush' as a teenager with their record making number three in her home Country.

Today, two studio albums and a live CD/DVD later, she's without a doubt Europe's biggest blues act. Playing sold out jazz, pop and blues festivals everywhere. She won one of France's oldest and most prestigious awards a 'Jazz A Juan Revelations' at Juan Les Pines in 2003. Ana was also nominated for 'The Best Blues Album' at the Jammie Awards, New York, (2003). She is a three time nominee in France for 'Best Singer', 'Best Guitar Player' and 'Best New Album' at the French Blues Awards. (2002).

WC Handy Award Ana Popovic is also making a name for herself in the US. She is the only continental European Artist ever to be nominated for a prestigious WC Handy Award. In 2006 she was proud to be the first European artist ever called upon to play on the legendary 'Blues Cruise' with their original band. Most recently she was a nominee by the worlds largest blues subscription publication 'Blues Wax Magazine' readers for 'Blues Artist of the Year'.

Fresh breeze to blues With her winning mixture of traditional blues, elements of R&B, jazz and soul, Ana Popovic is heading for the top rank of blues musicians in America too. She's got the necessary 'chops', charisma, enthusiasm and energy. Her live program brings a fresh breeze to blues rock in the 21st century - guaranteed to thrill any live music audience.

** New Blues Club in St Albans **

Lastly, Movinmusic has just received the following announcement of the new Blues Club in St Albans from the promoter, Bob: "Well this is it!! Welcome to the new Bi-monthly Blues club at the Maltings Arts Theatre, St Albans

Please also see end of e-mail for some exciting news relating to future gigs. Following the successful first two promotions under the guiding wing of St Albans Arts (STARTS), SHADES OF BLUES aims to continue with these extra special gigs guaranteeing a good night out, starting on Saturday 23rd September with Sam Kelly's STATION HOUSE + support. This promises to be a sensational blues experience with Caribbean influences. Their unique sound is a fusion of Blues, British funk, soul, jazz, calypso and reggae. The result is a mix of music, which is far different from the norm, but still with its roots based firmly in the blues. Fronted by the inimitable Root Jackson on vocals & percussion , together with superb reggae bass player Spy, TJ Johnson on guitar, Paul Jobson on keyboards and of course, Sam Kelly on drums, Voted British Blues Connection "Drummer of the Year" for five years running! As a special extra for the launch of SHADES OF BLUES support will be from local "powerful and emotive singer songwriter" Graham Robins (the one man soul machine!). hot on the heels of a very well received set supporting The Waterboys at the Alban arena. So, as they say in New Orleans "Let the good times Roll!!" and keep your eyes peeled for future exciting SHADES OF BLUES gigs.

Tickets are available from the Maltings Box office on 01727-844222 and cost £12.50. Doors at 7:30 pm, Music from 8:00pm.

Future Gigs

Saturday November 25th The Spikedrivers http://www.spikedrivers.co.uk Taking inspiration from their American roots and the country's rich musical heritage, the Spikedrivers' song writing, vocal harmonies and unique instrumentation make their sound fresh and exciting. The atmosphere created by the band takes you on a journey, from southern juke joints and lazy front porches to the huge open spaces of dust bowls and railroad tracks disappearing into the distance. Besides performing their main set the Spikedrivers have agreed to combine elements of one of their brilliant workshops into the evening. This will cover a brief history of the blues, where it came from and how it has influenced so much of today's popular music, the origins of the instruments, and most importantly involving the whole audience in discovering the music and having a great time doing so ! Tickets £12.50 (Cons. £10)

I know this is well in advance, but this is sure to sell out I am absolutely delighted to announce Saturday 20th January 2007 Nine Below Zero (Unplugged) !!!!!!! http://www.ninebelowzero.com/ Tickets £15 on sale during October onwards.

That's enough for the moment, I look forward to catching up with you at the gigs and hope you have had a good summer."
