Delta blues meets the legendary
Bluebird Records sound in rare London show

Sat 6 Oct 07: Canadian blues singer Diana Braithwaite and Kansas born guitarist Chris Whiteley launch the Live Box season, a unique platform where professional musicians perform alongside new talent.

Braithwaite has shared the bill with legends such as John Lee Hooker and Tracy Chapman, while Whiteley has played the blues for 30 years with artists such as Taj Mahal and Chuck Berry.

Virtuosos in black America’s most soulful music, tonight features an affectionate tribute to the classic Delta blues sounds and the famous Depression era label Bluebird Records. Afterwards the stage is offered to new musical talent in the Live Box jam.

Diana Braithwaite and Chris Whiteley will be performing songs from their ‘Morning Sun’ album. A tribute to the classic blues sounds of the 1930s and 1940s, ‘Morning Sun’ is a collection of original acoustic compositions that are both contemporary and traditional.

Quote:
“We were inspired by such greats as Memphis Minnie, Tampa Red, Lonnie Johnson, Bessie Smith, Big Bill Broonzy and the famous Bluebird Record sound”, Braithwaite and Whiteley relate. “We wanted to produce an album that embraces a time honoured sound while retaining it’s own originality”.
